If yous follow me on Instagram (@lindivs), thus yous may get got seen a sneak peek of this projection already! Today I’m joining xi other AMAZING Canadian bloggers to portion 12 #MarchWoodworking projects for #12MonthsofDIY! I had an manifestly Jane onetime side tabular array that I bought when I start moved out on my own. Since I’ve been married, it’s been sitting inwards our invitee bedroom, unremarkably gathering dust. I’m planning to re-vamp the entire invitee sleeping room this Spring, thus I thought it was the perfect fourth dimension to give this side tabular array a makeover.

Please excuse the horrible grainy photograph above! I got SO excited most this tabular array makeover that I forgot to get got a earlier picture! This, unfortunately, is the entirely ane I have. It however shows off the tiresome basics of the tabular array though. Here’s everything yous need:
Materials
Old side table
Paint (I used Ash in addition to Casement past times Fusion Mineral Paints)
1×6’s
Carriage bolts
Black spray pigment (optional)
Wood stain
Varnish
Epoxy
Tools
Table saw
Planer
Drill
Chop Saw
Sander
Grinder
I was SO excited to run amongst Fusion Mineral Paints on this project. They get got the most gorgeous colours, addition the pigment won’t crack, fade, or discolour over time. Check out their Pinterest page for color inspiration. I chose to purpose the colours Ash (deep grey) in addition to Casement (off-white)
I started past times taking apart my existing table, in addition to icon each private piece. Honestly, the pigment went on SO smoothly! I did a instant coat, simply to live certain everything was covered, but I could’ve gotten away amongst simply ane coat of paint.
I wanted the within of my drawer to popular out. Plus, I loathe when yous get got a actually dark drawer in addition to yous can’t run into your things inside! So I used the Casement paint to brighten upwards the drawer. With the lighter color on the dark master paint, 2 coats was definitely needed (only 1 coat of pigment pictured above).
First, use the Chop Saw to cutting the length needed to encompass your table. My tabular array top was twenty 1/8″ long, thus I cutting 4 boards at twenty 1/8″.
Next, purpose the tabular array saw to cutting your pieces (from the previous step) to the right width. My tabular array was 20″ wide, thus I cutting each of my 4 boards downward to 5″ wide.
When I was done cutting, my 5″ x twenty 1/8″ boards gibe perfectly over top of the existing side table.
When I was done, I sent each private spell through the planer (takes off tiny layers of forest at a time) a few times to brand certain that they would lay apartment on the tabletop in addition to they would all live uniform.
Then I sanded all sides of each spell to brand certain they were smooth.
The lastly pace earlier staining, was to brand certain that I had my drill holes inwards identify for the “bolted” industrial look. I position a drill hole most 1.5″ from the border of each side, straight inwards the center. First drill a airplane pilot hole, in addition to thus drill a countersunk hole using a drill fleck (fostner bit) that is the same size every bit your bolt thus that the bolt volition sink downward in addition to terminate upwards at the same marking every bit your wood.
I chose to purpose 8 of these wagon bolts, but they were every bit good long, thus my handy married adult man got out the grinder in addition to chopped them downward to the width of my boards.
Next, stain in addition to varnish your spell (not pictured) in addition to permit it dry out overnight. You tin also spray pigment your wagon bolts at this point. I painted ours a gloss black. When it is dry, yous are gear upwards for your terminal step! Clamp your forest pieces to the top of your painted side table. I clamped onto sparse boards higher upwards the stained boards to concur them all at once.
Screw into the boards from underneath, Double banking concern check that your screws are the right length. You desire them to larn into the stained boards, but non through them.
Mix about epoxy, drip it into the pre-drilled holes on top, in addition to position your imitation bolts inside.
DONE! Now larn admire your novel re-vamped industrial side tabular array :)
I also added novel hardware… the manifestly onetime wooden knob wasn’t doing it for me!
